Three Basil Plants 英会話「あぜりあ」本八幡・西船橋・津田沼・佐倉
Hi again. I tried to start a little garden at my house recently. By starting a garden I mean going to the home center and buying three basil plants and putting them by my window so they would get some sunlight. That was about a month ago, and they haven’t been doing too well. I did forget to water them a few times, but I didn’t expect them to die so quickly. They aren’t dead exactly but they are a little bit yellow. I went online to try and research how to grow basil plants, but Martha Stewart apparently doesn’t have any advice for bringing back plants that have turned yellow and started to lose their leaves. When Martha Stewart grows her plants she puts them in special racks and they become wonderful beautiful little islands of green. A few years ago Martha Stewart got arrested for insider trading and went to prison for about a year. I don’t know the details, but that time in prison didn’t affect her ability to grow lustrous household herbs. She definitely didn’t go to normal prison, but probably went to a cushy white-collar prison for white-collar criminals. If you aren’t familiar with the term white-collar, it means that demographic of people who earn over a certain amount of money, and are fairly described as being extremely wealthy. The opposite of white-collar is blue collar. Imagine a factory worker who makes an average salary going to work in a blue factory overall uniform and you get the origin of the term. Martha Stewart is most definitely white collar, even after spending a year in jail. My high school friend worked for Martha Stewart when she stayed at her vacation home in my hometown. He only met her a few times, but he said she was pleasant to work for. I don’t particularly like Martha Stewart or her cooking shows, but maybe I’m just jealous because she can grow a basil plant better than I can.
