CONQUERING ONE’S FEARS (Part 2)「あぜりあ」本八幡・西船橋・津田沼・佐倉

Okay. I guess I have to admit it if I am going to be honest.

Seriously, I had hoped that by the time I had gotten around to writing the second part of this Blog, I would have already conquered the fear I had planned to speak to you about and have something happy and exciting to tell you. However, this did not take place so instead, unfortunately, I must share with you that this fear I am facing is yet to be conquered. Perhaps by next week which is now what I am hoping so it can done and something I can be proud of for the doing of it.

Right. This is it now.

Since I do not drive, and never ever did learn how, even though I came sort of close, I suppose you may be all wonder how your Dear Mary Ann-san gets around to places in Hilo. For a good while now, my friend has been coming for me and taking me places and only recently has she finally accepted a bit of money from me for her service. Before she helped me, I was taking a Taxicab everyplace and using Taxi Coupons. A book of Taxi Coupons costs $30 for 15 coupons which is not bad really and you can ride up to four miles on one coupon. One coupon equals a one-way ride.

So what’s my big FEAR that I am trying to conquer?

Getting back to using the Taxi Cab again. It sounds like a simple thing to do. But even though I have a full coupon book to use by the end of this month of June before the coupons expire, returning to using the Taxi Cab is not that simple for me. It use to be but not anymore.

I have not ridden in a Cab for nearly two years and now I have my condition to deal with. If I am going to the store, I need the assistance of a shopping cart to hang onto so I can get out of the car. If I am going elsewhere, (like the Bank) I need not only my Staff in my right hand to walk with but I need someone on my left side to hold my left hand and walk with me. It is a balance thing I guess, especially if I do not have the shopping cart. And I am not sure if the Cab driver will get out of the car just to get me a shopping cart to walk with so I can get out of the car. I mean, getting a shopping cart for me so I can get and go to Wal-Mart or KTA or Safeway or Longs or Target or even a restaurant, is not his/her job. They do NOT have to do that for me. Like I just said, it is not their job to do that. And yes, I know what you are thinking about now.

Can I use a Walker? Yes. I can. I have one that I use here at home in my apartment. But I live on the second floor of my apartment complex and what cab driver do you know that will come all the way upstairs and get my Walker and bring it down and put it in the cab for me? My Dear Ones, THAT is not his job either.

So, because of all this, this is the reason I have not yet conquered my big FEAR of returning to the cab, and riding.

I am just hoping that soon, I can.

Aloha,
Your Most Fearful (at this time),
Mary Ann-san
