Hi again. One of my coworkers recently set up a Facebook account, and has been asking me how to use the various functions on it. I use Facebook only occasionally, so I haven’t been able to help much, and everthing on there is pretty easy to figure out anyway. I do appreciate Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg and I think it’s been by and large a good thing to have in the world, but there are some things I really don’t like about it. First of all, I don’t like the idea of the possibility that all the personal information I put on there can be accessed and used by third parties for advertising or other purposes. I don’t know the real truth behind what happens, but it seems hard to believe that as powerful a source of information as Facebook wouldn’t do a deal with other entities to share that information. I do like using Facebook to check on what old friends and acquaintances are doing. Some people have really interesting careers. One of my old high school classmates is now a comedian in New York, and recently appeared on the Daily Show, a very popular comedy news show that used to be hosted by Jon Stewart. I don’t like Facebook when people put up annoying videos of cute dogs wearing sweaters, or feel the need to update their page on every little thing that happens to them during the day. On the whole, though, I guess I should say that Mark Zuckerberg has provided a great resource.
