Game of Thrones 英会話「あぜりあ」本八幡・西船橋・津田沼・佐倉

Hi again. I wonder if the TV series Game of Thrones is as popular in Japan as it is in the US right now. It’s a fantasy series based on the books by George R. R. Martin. I have only seen one episode of the TV show, but I own all the books and have read them a few times. The reason I bring it up is because he is still in the process of writing the next book in the series, and has been for the last six years. If you were a Harry Potter fan when those books were being written, you remember all the waiting between entries. This, for me, is the same thing multiplied by a hundred. Six years is a long time to wait for anything, and it’s been especially frustrating because Martin makes it a point to never offer any updates about his progress to his fans. I liked Harry Potter, but not nearly as much as Game of Thrones. It’s a really well-conceived universe, with a great sprawling story and awesome characters, good and evil. The last book ended on kind of a cliff-hanger, with several story points unresolved or ambiguous. George R. R. Martin is about seventy years old now, and looks like he weighs about three hundred pounds. I’m more worried he’ll die of a massive heart attack before he finishes than whether the TV show will change the plot from the books. Some people are upset because the TV show has now passed the books in terms of the plot, and the writers for HBO have apparently changed a lot of things from the books. A more popular show in Japan seems to be The Walking Dead, a TV series about surviving in the zombie apocalypse. I see advertisements for it on the train sometimes, and a few of my students are fans. If you like zombies then I highly recommend it. Anyway, hope you all have a good spring and spend a lot more time outside than I do.
